Los Alamos National Lab
Добавлен 20 фев 2008
Los Alamos National Laboratory performs national security science. No place on Earth pursues a broader array of world-class scientific endeavors. No one else collaborates on national security science in so many technical disciplines.
The Laboratory enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
Los Alamos is operated for the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration by Triad National Security, LLC.

The planets bear the names of Roman gods, which puts Cathy Plesko and Wendy Caldwell in exalted company, as each of these Los Alamos National Laboratory planetary-defense scientists now has an asteroid named after them. The Working Group for Small Bodies Nomenclature published the names June 21 on behalf of the International Astronomical Union, dubbing asteroid 32105 “Plesko” and asteroid 32110...

Great interviews, thank you for sharing and for what you do!
Beautiful area but you must think as they tell you - dystopia!
Amazing interview. Thank you all, who participated in creating of this amazing content 😊
A phenomenal production. Thank you to everyone that brought this video together.
Wonderful interview. Would love to see something similar on Leo Szilard - the man who patented the chain reaction... Thanks, Colm.

Very nice to see this initiative to inspire a new generation!
Neat!
Can international students work in this lab?
What a great little video showing kid youths with such promise. Offered an exciting opportunity to see and do the work of the future
How is the application of aerogel for Magnetohydrodynamic craft progressing? I'm impressed by your use of highly efficient nanotube-based tile materials that convert radiation, not heat, from nuclear materials into electricity. Quite impressive. 🛸
That project is under ground in Nevada
Nice video
❤❤
Great to see

Excellent documentary. Reinforces the pride I feel in having been privileged to be a part of the Lab for 20 years.
Sensacional, muito bom,esse documentário.
I am very thankful to have been able to find a rental in Los Alamos while working for the lab, but the housing situation here is atrocious. Many people choose to live out of their cars and/or camp while here because prices are high, demand for housing is even higher, and there isn't enough housing to keep up with all the constant new employees coming in. This problem has always existed, but has been growing worse. I hope there can be a way to alleviate this issue as it draws people away from wanting to permanently work for the lab.
I wish I was working there. Instead I'm at Plexus
Why dont they tell us the cure to cancer?
We're workin on it 😉 science-innovation.lanl.gov/science-programs/office-of-science-programs/isotopes/
Your not going to get rich working there.
What is the Density in g/cm³ of the MnO and MgO or Magnesium on Mars? Is it the same densities as those on Earth? I doubt it. What Are the lakebed rocks densities in g/cm³ on Mars? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composition_of_Mars
I hope nothing happens at the Los Alamos National Laboratory....
What do you mean?
Don't forget about the astronomical housing costs and likelihood that you'll be commuting from SF where costs are also astronomical. Or, you could have a three hour round trip commute from the ABQ area.
They have their own neighborhood right ther close to the laboratory. They even have their own schools their own police their own fire department hospitals etc
Excellent series. With the publicity surrounding the release of Oppenheimer, LANL needed to add it's voice to the conversation and this was an excellent contribution.
This is wrong. It is the stuff of climate alarmism. Melting sea ice makes zero difference to sealevel. Ice cores from Greenland show that temperature 5,000years ago was 1.5degC higher than today. Well, that proves two things. First, snow was falling all over Greenland when it was 1.5degC warmer. Second, there is a remarkably well preserved Neolithic village at Skara Brae in the Orkney Islands of Scotland. This village is close to the shore of a bay facing the Atlantic. It only c.2m above the present storm high water mark. The village has never been submerged. This proves that the sea level of the Atlantic when Greenland was 1.5degC warmer was no higher than it is today. The village was dated by carbon from the charcoal in the cooking grates. Charcoal floats, therefore the village has never been flooded, even so close to the present shoreline.
Hello? I'm looking for a job there :)
J Robert Oppenheimer's ghost will haunt you forever.
Five years? (looks at watch) That's now.
Then why depict the bow shock as being aligned with the ecliptic plane? This is OBVIOUSLY incorrect and should be oriented along the suns Polar axis.
Couldn't the result be also explained by the notion that... people are bad at linearizing their perceptions?
Yah, but the rest of the state, excepting SF, that tourist trap, is full of potholes, drug addicts, poor education, poverty, haboobs and low wages. Since these united States have had five quarters of the Feds leading the DGP growth it's no wonder they can pay someone to post videos boasting about a tax funded bomb factory.
Very nice….now how about those housing prices?
You'll save so much money not eating out that your $5000 mortgage will be affordable!
A lot of dead trees and radioactivity leaks in those pumice cliffs surrounding the labs. No thanks.
Everything is provided by Los Alimos. I'm sure that they provide the housing
Say less, I'm already sold lol!
Unlike most of the " Presidents" we have had since the end of WWII, Oppenheimer was a truly great man and cared about things that matter , such as science and literature.
❓Do all thees Radar Microwaves Affect the ice melting more Quicker than it would Normally.? I wonder if anyone has Calculated that.
What a great program. Great opportunity for these young people. 😊
I don't recognise Wendy Caldwell however I do recognise Dr. Catherine Plesko as she's been on several science documentaries over the years on the Discovery Channel (Back when it was showing real science stuff and not reality TV bullshit), National geographic and BBC documentary channels on impact stuff including the Chixulub impactor.
